I wanna see the offense put together a complete game, but we probably won't see that.  I except to see what we've seen a lot of the last few years: poor clock management, AH picks as a result of staring down 1 receiver, throwing into zone when he thinks it's man coverage, penalties by the offensive line, run plays on 1st and 2nd down followed by a pass out of shotgun with 3 receivers, AH taking sacks from a bad defense, at least 2-3 drops by the pass-catchers.

I don't see Illinois at Wisconsin on this list. 😏

Expecting another ugly game (heck, last year's was).

I suspect the Badger offense will have a breakout game vs Illinois.  On the other hand, I have a hunch Bucky's D may struggle  a bit ... to the tune of giving up 17-21 points.

Hornibrook is really the problem to this offense.  He's hindered the offense for the last 2.5 years and until someone else can step in and play for him it's going to continue to be like this for Wisconsin.

An odd game that ultimately played out as it should. Howling, freezing winds and a blanket of snow early on made things difficult in the passing game and the taking care of the ball aspect of things, but ultimately Bucky just leaned on a mediocre opponent (have you heard this before?) and ran them into the ground. Still gave up a couple of long runs that simply shouldn't have happened.

Admittedly, I'd never even heard of Evan Bondoc before the game (and he's a Madison Edgewood guy!), but I now have to wonder why he wasn't seeing more PT before this.

As far as the upsets, Ohio State has been ripe for the picking and Purdue led them to the slaughter. Not sure if Purdue is still anything worth writing home about though. They'll probably lay an egg against Sparty next week if I know my B1G-West.

Minny's defense has been their Achilles' heel. No surprise Nebraska's weirdly explosive offense exposed that. Minny also now has a QB controversy, as Annexstad mysteriously didn't return to the field after halftime despite no signs of injury beforehand and his backup showed something with his legs and arm.

Good game to watch. Badger offense finally got it going 100% at times. The long run for a TD and 2 of Hornibrook's interceptions lead to 17 of the 20 points Illiniois got. Wouldnt really expect those 'boners' from a kid who is chronologically a senior, but that is Wisconsin and it's QB situation over the years(minus Russell Wilson) and too be honest R. Wilson had his share of 'boners' too. Just not as many. Hornibrook looks scared to me - dont have any other word that would fit, unless he is going into games unprepared(unlikely).

I now think Bucky will beat Penn State at Penn State and NU at NU. I see them going 10-2 and playing in the Big 10 championship game and probably getting beat bad. Only way young guys get experience and older is TIME. It will take time. I think next year's defense will be back up there again.

Anyone seeing Danny VandenBoom getting a shot in a game this season? Sounds as if Coan is going to be reshirted for the season, which to be honest seems dumb. I dont think Coan is good enough to play before Danny VandenBoom EVER!

What is the point of redshirting Coan?  Is it because PC wants to start him for 2-3 years after Horni even with the talented Mertz coming to town?  Also, letting any backup play like they let DVB yesterday is pointless.  Our backup coulda been playing the whole 4th quarter and getting a few passes in...
My only explanation is that PC is gonna have a open competition between Coan/Horni/Mertz next year.

Watching Horni throw disgustingly bad interceptions then trot off the field and back on just to do it again without ANY accountability is sickening.  PC just sits there and has that deer in the headlight look and says "well the guys had a nice week of practice and we're excited for next week."

Because it never hurts to have multiple options in the future? With the new redshirt rules Coan could still see action down the stretch also.

Also, can we pump the breaks on Mertz? There's no guarantee he's going to be good at this level. Putting all the eggs in that basket is dangerous. Let's not Houston or Kafentzis ourselves again.

Hornibrook Derangement Syndrome is becoming a thing.

My understanding is Jack Coan redshirts this season provided the Badgers can afford to.  If Hornibrook were to get hurt and miss any appreciable playing time, Coan's redshirt would come off and he would be the starter.  Otherwise, Danny VandenBoom will continue to play in mop-up time which will result in Coan & VandenBoom both being sophomores eligibility-wise in 2019.

Regarding the 2nd coming of the Messiah, current high school senior QB Graham Mertz, I'm in agreement with DB's assessment & caution (preceding post) 100%.  In fact, despite the high scouting-services ratings (4 stars, 4th-ranked pro-style QB), I would wager Mertz will wear a redshirt next season while Hornibrook begins his 4th season as the Badger starter and Coan & VandenBoom burn their sophomore seasons as back-ups. That would leave juniors Coan & VandenBoom and redshirt freshman Mertz competing for the starting QB job in 2020.  By that time, I wouldn't be surprised if Coan and/or VandenBoom had taken their talents to other school(s).

Hornibrook Derangement Syndrome is over the top in some camps.  While I can appreciate & welcome constructive criticism and differing opinions from my own on a player, I'm almost always annoyed by criticism or an opinion that is born out of ignorance or an unyielding bias towards a player.   IMO, the criticism of Hornibrook on here has been mostly balanced, fair & warranted, other than elsmith appearing to be a bit hell-bent and unyielding in his dislike of Hornibrook.  On the other end of the spectrum, as a staunch Hornibrook defender, I've even been critical of his inability to take his game to another level this season and his pitiful performance vs Michigan.

Some Badger Football discussion sites have been unmerciful and way over the top in their negative criticis of Hornibrook.  It is often apparent that many of these extremists have a limited depth, understanding and perspective of college football.  Many of these impostors lack an appreciation of the finer points of all things college football.  The UW Football page on Facebook is loaded with ignorant, knee-jerk, arm-chair critics who are brutally viscious & cruel in their assaults on Hornibrook, but in reality, show their low football I.Q.'s the moment they begin to post.

With that said, I would rate Hornibrook as a better passing QB than Joel Stave was.  Russell Wilson was head & shoulders above Hornibrrok in all facets of the position.  John Stocco & Scott Tolzien were better QB's than Hornibrook.  Not head & shoulders better but noticeably better.  Both were great game managers, could make all the throws, seldom committed mental errors and very high QB efficiency ratings.   Stocco's pocket presence was on par with Hornibrook's due to lack of physical immobility.  Stocco & Tolzien took very good care of the ball ... few INT's & turnovers.
