State Journal reporter Rob Hernandez has released his awards for the year. Here they are:

Spirit award: Matt Barrett, Monroe. He finished third in a tough field at the Division 1 state cross country meet and had his track and field season halted by a stress fracture before the Southern Badger Conference meet. In between, the Minnesota recruit spent most of the winter with his face painted red-and-white, enjoying every minute of the ultra-successful and the ultra-exciting Monroe boys and girls basketball seasons from the heart of the student section.

Game of the year: Monona Grove's incredible 20-17 win over Ashwaubenon in a Division 2 state semifinal football game at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh. The Silver Eagles erased a 10-point deficit over the final 5 minutes, 55 seconds with flawless play on both sides of the football, celebrating 50 years of football at MG by qualifying for the state finals for the first time since winning it all in 1984.
