The Heart O'North Conference will be beginning its conference schedule with the start of week three of the 2018 season. There are a couple very good teams like Northwestern and Bloomer that will likely make deep playoff runs later in the fall, so conference play this year will be very exciting.

Spooner split its first two games of the year. They had an nice win against Saint Croix Falls, but they lost their next game by 25 points to Baldwin-Woodville. Bloomer opened up their season with two impressive wins against Somerset and Lakeland. After week 1, Bloomer debuted on the D4 Ranking Coaches' Poll at 4th and will likely stay there for a while. They were the outright champions of the conference last year and had an impressive upset against the 1-seed Osceola after moving up from D5 to D4.

Ladysmith started the season off with a 6-6 tie to Flambeau. In week 2, they had a 12 point loss to Lake Holcombe/Cornell. After going 1-7 in the conference last year, they are looking to bounce back and take a few more games in this competitive conference. Chetek-Weyerhaeuser went 1-1 after an impressive conference record last season including a take down of the eventual outright champion Bloomer. They lost to Elk Mound by 21 points, but they finished with a ten point win over Saint Croix Falls the next week.

Northwestern opened its season with two very impressive wins. They beat Ashland by 15 points, and in the following week, Northwestern took down sixth ranked Osceola by a massive 38-7 win. They return many key starters from a team that upset 3-seed and undefeated G-E-T in round one of last season's playoffs. Cumberland went 1-1 in their first two games. They had a close 7 point loss to Grantsburg, but they bounced back the next week with a massive 50 point win over Cameron. Last year they finished tied at second in the conference, and this year they will have to work much harder if they want to do the same.

Barron finished last season without a single win, but they have already improved as they have started with a 1-1 record. Barron lost its first game to Amery, but they managed to get a 12 point win over Chequamegon in week 2. This is their first win since 2014. Hayward has gone 0-2 in its first games of this season. They were blown out by Lakeland in week 1 and Grantsburg in week 2. They look to bounce back in league play where they finished 2-5 last year.

My predictions:
Spooner @ Bloomer: Bloomer should be able to take this game quite easily.

Ladysmith @ Chetek-Weyerhaeuser: Ladysmith will likely continue to struggle in this game as Chetek-Weyerhaeuser should win.

Northwestern @ Cumberland: Despite losing to them last year, Northwestern looks like they will be able to win pretty handily.

Barron @ Hayward: Barron has only one win in the past four seasons, but I believe that they will manage to get a second win in a row against a struggling Hayward team.
Woah, it's been awhile
