I'd like to hear the reasoning behind this but nothing should surprise any of us any longer when it comes to youth, HS and college sports.

It's still a bit strange. The timing right on the heels of Howard announcing he's coming back with all the speculation that Howard's role in the offense was making other players a bit unhappy. The fact that neither will have immediate eligibility and they are leaving a team poised for big things. Wojo not thanked in their goodbye message. *shrugs*

Big-time programs will definitely come sniffing for them...particularly those who recruited both to begin with.

Trevor Anderson already lobbying to get the band back together on Twitter...I don't see that being in the cards at this point in time.

That crossed my mind and Howard does shoot a lot but most of the other guys on the team like Anim, John and Morrow take so very few shots it's not like there aren't opportunities for both Sam and Joey to get theirs.

For me this is a major shocker, especially where Marquette was potentially  ranked for next year. They had the pieces for a great season.  Hope Wojo  can work thru this setback.

I wonder how this works for Joey since he used his redshirt last year when he enrolled at Marquette for 2nd semester. Does he lose a year of eligibility when he sits out or will they give him a waiver? I imagine he'll get a waiver.

Reliable sources (family) say it's either Wisconsin or Virginia ...  Hauser boys' Dad and Brad Davison's Dad were teammates at UM-Duluth, back in the day.  The families are very tight ...

Not sure how he's going to get a waiver. Most of the time it's for things like a need to be closer to home due to family issues.  Or due to being mislead about sanctions.  Or in Justin  Fields case, accusations of racism.

Wow, this is kind of out of the blue for sure.  Stating the obvious here, but something is amiss at Marquette.  Probably doesn't make Wojo's status any stronger and if the wheels come off next season, he will be in trouble.

Where do they go from here??  Most believe Virginia as the leading contender with Michigan St. also in the mix.  Virginia though may not have the scholarships available - looks like they just signed a 6'8" 3 man, but Guy did declare today.

The big question is if the Badgers are going to be a factor here.  If I am right, the scholarship #'s play out.  Both Hauser's will sit next season, but just as we talked about with Jalen Johnson and Johny Davis - the Hauser's would undoubtably make the Badgers a Big 10 favorite.  Then, if they don't get Johnson or Davis, the blow is very much softened.  But, just think about adding all 4 of those guys!!  I know, a pipe dream, but that would make this a top 10 team instantly.

I did hear some Badger players have already reached out to them and obviously Trev Anderson as you would expect loves the idea of re-joining them.  And, as odd as it sounds, adding the Hauser's makes the Badgers position stronger on the recruiting trail.  If the Hauser's would pick the Badgers, that could lure the others to follow.  It sounds like the thought of walking into an instant top 10 team is raising some eyebrows for some guys.

How regrettable does that early enroll look now? That said, he technically only redshirted one semester. So maybe he gets 2.5 years after it's all said and done?

Of course, I also wouldn't put it beyond the NCAA to go change their eligibility rules yet again loosening restrictions on transfers and heading one step closer to college free agency...😏

He was injured for that semester so maybe that will be a factor as well. Will be interesting to see how everything transpires.

Wojo doesn't look like he's long for the Marquette job right now. Given this transfer news and the collapse at the end of the season, one has to wonder what the locker room and team chemistry was like.

Right now, it doesn't appear that UVA or Michigan State have the scholarships to take both kids. As strange as it sounds, UW is the logical choice right now.

Unless the Badgers have another defection, they wouldn't have the scholarships available to add all 4. There is the potential for another defection though...

I never did understand that decision, and now he loses an entire year of eligibility because of it.

I'm not 100% sure how early enrollment affects basketball.  Did he play?  Otherwise I don't see why it's much different than football.  Early enrollment doesnt count against football

When he enrolled it was basketball season, so the clock starts then. When football early enrollees come in, it is not during the actual football season.

Obviously the Hauser's never planned on transferring at the beginning. Joey enrolling early was to allow him to receive care and rehab from Marquette and have that be a focus. It essentially helped jump-start his rehab and preparation for the following season. It was the right decision at the time, and it did not impact how many years he could play at Marquette (unless he had another season-ending injury, then he would have already used his redshirt; though could appeal later). The only real potential downside was in the event of a transfer, but with Sam already at MU and things seemingly having no issues, that was pretty far down the list. The benefits of better and faster rehab outweighed the potential for it hurting him in the slim chance he transferred. Obviously hindsight is 20/20.
