Anyone have thoughts about the first match up of the year?

I have seen Algoma's last four games as well as Kewaunee play Wrightstown at the West De Pere Tournament, and these are two teams seemingly going in opposite directions. Without Stangel, Kewaunee just does not have an aggressive sense to their offense (although Selner did a very good job driving to the basket and drawing fouls), and they really are more of a pass it around, slow paced offense at this point. While Kewaunee's defense isn't Algoma's as far as technique and quickness, they still are very tall, guard the post well, and at least kept Wrightstown on the perimeter nearly all day. For Kewaunee to have a chance, their guards will have to break Algoma's press (which is hurt by the loss of Mura) and run the offense trying to get good looks inside (the catch though, as always against Algoma, is without turnovers). If Algoma starts turning Kewaunee over and creates a faster paced game, I don't think Kewaunee has a chance as Algoma's bench depth and plentiful offensive options will take over.

My score prediction is Algoma 52-37.

What a great game it was. A defensive battle like recent years. Kewaunee comes out with an underdog victory. Algoma just couldn't get hot from the floor and they struggled down the stretch. Kewaunee did a good job at keeping all of the Wolves key players in check. Come February, this should make for another great Packerland showdown.
