Awesome to see not one but two Marawood teams playing for a gold ball.  Unfortunately for Stratford, they are playing against a loaded Springs Team

Yeah, good on Stratford getting back here, but the general thought-process since the brackets came out is that the south was much stronger than the north.

Springs shutting out Amherst for a second time and routing Lake Country Lutheran certainly hasn't changed that opinion, just enforces the Ledgers' quality.

These two powerhouse programs have met at Camp Randall twice before.
2003 D6 Championship Stratford 29 vs. SMS 13
2005 D6 Championship Stratford 25 vs. SMS 7

I've got SMS in the 2018 edition. They are just too good.

That 2005 team came into the playoffs with a 4-5 record too...and an enrollment that was just 2 students higher than D7 champ Pacelli.

The way that this division has shaken out, anyone else have a problem with Springs and Amherst having been put into the same regional? I think Stratford may give Springs a reasonable game, but still probably something like a 20-point spread ...

Amherst had two losses. They didn't even win their own conference. Why would they get any preferential treatment in placement?

Very disappointed you even took the time to ask that question Travis.    https://playground.wissports.net/post/annual-my-team-got-screwed-thread-9378115?pid=1305838891

Brilliant, Travis. You are absolutely right. The three-time defending state champs lost second game of season to St. Mary's Springs. Lost last game of regular season to D-6 2017 and 2018 state finalist Iola-Scandinavia. Level III rematch Amherst v. Springs = 12-0 loss. Quite possibly the Ledgers' smallest margin of victory this season.

Obviously small schools can suffer big peaks and valleys due to graduation. But both of these defending state champs were quite solid during the regular season ... Defending state champs in the same region ... it's not a my-team-got-screwed-rant ... it's a question of whether it's ever happened before and whether it a program's performance the prior season should also carry any weight whatsoever. In the case of the body of work by both Springs and Amherst this past regular season + past performance = maybe they're not in the same 8.

Four titles in six years, man. Resumes be damned...lol.

If Amherst wanted to be in a different quad from Springs, well, should have won their conference.

Amherst got two cracks at Springs and couldn't even score...hard for me to say anyone's the second-best team in D5 at this point.

OK db11, I'm cool with it. Honestly just a question. I hate it when people freak out and immediately, instead of making a cogent counter-argument simply write off a comment as someone being an ill-informed rube. I get the win the conference idea. Iola-Scandinavia, also from CWC Large is not too shabby this season. They didn't win their conference last year, either, and went to state finals. Also, it's not out of the question that two teams from the same conference could be the two best teams in the state in their respective divisions ...

I don't think people realize how disingenuous it is to other teams and communities when they play the "we're the real runner-up" card. No, you're just all "non-winners" in the end.

Put yourself in Stratford's shoes. Is that what you wanna hear?

Sure, we'd all love in some perfect world for the two-without-question-best-teams to play for every championship in every sport. Just doesn't work that way. Even in the sports where things are massaged and manipulated to get said outcome.

Let's go back to pre-Level 3. If you want a competitive State title game are you hoping for a rematch of a 34-0 game from earlier in the year? From everything I heard, Springs didn't even play particularly well that second time around and were barely threatened. And while we're talking Springs' playoff opponents here, why not Omro, who came back to have a better game with Springs second time around also, scoring 20, being within 7 in the fourth quarter and rushing for 250 yards?

Why can't we just hope Stratford shows up and gives Springs a good game?

If not for Springs last year we might have had a D6 title game rematch this year. RaLu ran into Springs in Level 3 last year and played a pretty good game. The same couldn’t be said for Iola last year.... Springs should have this game easy. I wouldn’t want to be a D6 team next year with Springs being so close to the cut line.

21-0 at half, 28-0 final.

14-12 half, 35-12 final.

Ehh. RaLu couldn't run on Springs. Huettner put up big numbers. RaLu had better defensive numbers than I-S, though I wonder how much circumstances played into that with Springs getting out to a comfy lead on RaLu, and having to take things late into the third against I-S, including scoring their last TD on a trick play.

I'd say it's a push in regards to who got their butt kicked better. 😉

When I said they played a good game, I meant it in the context that Springs was pretty much unstoppable last year and that RaLu had a better defensive game than Iola.
