Nicolet of course is a prohibitive favorite but if Foster is more healthy by next week, I get the feeling Washington can beat them.

I’ll be curious to see how much Nicolet beats Elkhorn by. Lax Central vs Washington should be a great game.

How does anybody beat Nicolet? How strong are their guards?

Nicolet is the clear favorite, but Milwaukee Washington is playing better ball than them at the moment. The scary thing to consider, is that Nicolet played two of their worst games of the year in the playoffs. One was in the regional final and the other was against Kaukauna on sat. They won both Contests by 13 using one big run each game to assert themselves. If nicolet can play the way they can, only Milw Wash has a chance to knock them off

Washington also needs to not collapse in the final few minutes like they did against McCabe and Co last year. I’ll be interested in seeing what Elkhorn will even be able to do against Nicolet. This game has blowout written all over it. Elkhorn doesn’t have much size and they don’t have that one massive superstar player like Westosha.

You keep them out of transition and beat their pressure for points. That's what Kaukauna did early in the 1st half when they had an 8 point lead. They really struggled to score in the half court though against the length and athleticism of Nicolet.

Elkhorn will break out the old Adams-Friendship stall ball in the semis, resulting in the crowd booing both teams for the entire game.

So what you're saying is three of the four teams in this field are getting booed? 😎

It wouldn't be a horrible strategy, and it's probably the only way they could even dream of winning. but you'd have to avoid getting blitzed early.

Elkhorn plays great team ball with the Umnus twins being crafty little guards...they do have some size, but I don't see it being very effective against Nicolet's length. Maybe Larson, Davey and the Umnus's hit some threes early and they slow the game way down? I don't know what the answer is.

Is it just me, or has LaX Central not been as sharp this year? Obviously Davis is having a great year, but there's not much in the way of great results outside of the MVC. I just don't think they have it, but if they can find it, they're gonna the ones to upset the apple cart. The talent is there.

Milwaukee Washington has the Big Three now, but I have some worries about depth beyond that. Johntae Martin, Jimmy Brown and Tre Valeriano are gonna have to be the X-factors if a State Title is to finally come back to MPS. I just don't see it, but i hope they at least make it fun.

Everybody knows about the Nicolet guys who weren't there last year, but Jamari Sibley is no joke either. Jarrett Henderson doesn't provide a ton of scoring but does provide athleticism and more insane length. 6'5" C.J. Hayes also provides length and finishes well off service from the Johnsons. Sonny Phinisee is a bit of an unsung hero in the backcourt as he alleviates ball-handling pressure from the Johnsons and hits his fair share of threes. They were good before the transfers, now it's just insane.

I guess DB I am curious on Lax not showing outside of the MVC??  Their two losses are to Minnehana by 4 - who arguably could beat anyone else in Wisconsin - and Brookfield Central - a state tournament qualifier, on their home court on the second half of a back and back and the third game in five days.

They travelled to Florida and won two games handily, mauled a 17 win Madison Memorial team and really weren't challenged by the two Eau Claire schools who each have players with some offers.  They beat Marshfield, who shared the Wisconsin Vally Conference title - with Merrill who they beat handily Saturday.  Granted, the MVC was weaker, but they beat the second best team 3 times and that was a team ranked in the top 10 all season.

Filling a non-conference schedule can't be easy.  Unless they are to travel hours or have someone travel to them, their schedule would appear to be pretty well set.  Sleeping on them because of the feeling they had a weak schedule would be a mistake.

I actually attended that game and it may have clouded my judgment. I was going off memory and seemed to remember some tight games but outside of Onalaska, I guess they really haven't had any...oops!

It would be a very good strategy. Once Nicolet gets a lead with Elkhorn sitting in a zone, don't be surprised to see Nicolet sit on the ball either. That's assuming they don't jump out to a 10-15 point lead in the first 5 minutes.

I'm sort of expecting a game similar to the sectional final against Kaukauna, but maybe that is me hoping.

Hoping the booing or fans walking out is enough to garner attention and truly address the matters at hand.

Cue the "HS needs a shot clock" movement.  Nicolet's length and athleticism will make holding the ball difficult unless they allow it to happen. If I were them and I had a lead and the other team wants to hold the ball on me, I probably allow it knowing my team will be well rested for a back to back the next day.

Can hardly wait for some outside group to take all the credit for the performance of the kids and turn winning a gold ball into a recruiting tactic for the next wave of players to join forces and do the same.  Yay Sports!!!

I didn't mean to come across in a negative way DB - hopefully you didn't take it that way.  I am glad I don't have to do a schedule for a team like Lax.  Living over this way, for them to be at the level they are at - they are in a tough situation.  Speaking from experience, finding quality non-conference teams is impossible without riding a bus a couple of hours or having someone ride it to them.  If the conference is down, there isn't much competition and there isn't another comparable team in D3, so it has to be tough.  I know there will be talk about them playing a weaker schedule, but I don't think it was too bad and they are playing about the best schedule they logistically can.

LAX needs to play in the Terry Porter classic or one of the other Classis' they have down in Milwaukee. Get their season going on the right track early.
