This may be the least of Kimberly's title teams in the streak, but they got over the real hump last week. Muskego shall present a challenge but it's hard for me to see the Wing-T running wild on a team as well-disciplined as Kimberly. Be interesting to see what, if any, plays Makinen can make through the air. The Warriors will need them to spring the upset.

Kimberly by a couple scores. Kimberly has shown year in and year out they’re able to dominate the game against some of these schools from the south part of the state (exception to 2015 vs Arrowhead).
Fondy was the only team in this state capable of beating Kimberly in my opinion. Muskego will keep it a game for awhile but Kimberly will dominate the second half as they’d done at state for the past years. I dig up a couple of interesting stats from the past state games for Kimberly.
Kimberly has outscored opponents 107-15 (not a typo) in the second half of the last 5 State title games.
58-0 in the 4th quarter of those games.
Kimberly will wear them down.

I think Muskego has a legitimate chance at winning this game. They play an offense that Kimberly hasn’t come across for one, they have the size to go against Kimberly secondly and they come out of a much tougher conference than Kimberly so they’re been tested more than Kimberly has. Aside from the 2 Fondy games and the Neenah game in the playoffs, Kimberly hasn’t been challenged much and I think this might be the year a team from the south gets the job done against Kimberly.

Kimberly has seen an offense like this already in the postseason against Chippewa Falls who runs the Wing-T. VFA is just about as tough as the classic eight. Kimberly’s been battle tested year in and year out. Have played A North, Bay Port, Fondy twice and Neenah twice. There’s less than a one percent chance Kimberly gets out coached in a state title game. They’ll be more than prepared and disciplined. Muskego would need to make multiple big plays through the air to pull off the upset.

I know many who feel that Kimberly vs. Fond du Lac was the de facto championship. I believe Muskego has a shot to win but my prediction is Kimberly in a close one.

So does anyone else think that WIAA should try to seed a #1 and #2 overall in each division and to place those two teams only in regionals on opposite sides of the bracket? I've asked the question before. Response has been lukewarm. But wouldn't this case of Kimberly/Fond du Lac have been a logical example?

Kimberly would have been the four seed in any seeding system you'd like to use.

Why not have the coaches vote and decide? If Fondy and Kimberly were 1 and 2 the entire year for the coaches poll, why wouldn’t it be the same case for the playoffs then?

Kimberly. Not that close in the 4th.

So Travis, who were #2 and #3 in "your" seeding system??

I'm convinced there are people who would have gladly forgone the entire D1 playoffs for their own selfish reasons and just had Kimberly and Fondy play each other at Camp Randall. It begs the question though, how much does a runner-up trophy matter? Particularly in this situation? Think about it. These Fondy kids have put it all into beating Kimberly and when it mattered the most, they gave the TE a free release and went home with no gold ball. How many years in a row now? Four? I'd have to imagine for some, the silver ball would have been more an insult than anything. JMO, though.

Ultimately this bracket manipulation to get dream matchups under the CR lights isn't what this is really about you know. It's HS athletics after all. There are no Vegas lines. Fun for gossip, but harder in practicality than you may realize. One year's easy fix to manipulate the brackets could be the next year's headache.

And stop with this "but the polls" non-sense. They should be taken with a grain of salt. How much attention do you think coaches are paying to teams from outside their area during the season? The AP is probably even worse in that regard these days. They are for fun, but nothing more.

Kimberly got seeded behind Bay Port in their own regional despite being #2 in the state coaches poll. Because all the other teams were unbeaten, and Kimberly was the two seed, I can guarantee you that in coaches seeding, Kimberly would have been the four.

Fondy would have been #1 pretty easily I think and Kimberly #4 for the reasons I outlined above. Who would have gotten the 2 and who the 3, I'm not sure and I'm not sure how it would have even been argued to be honest. I picked Muskego to beat Marquette before the playoffs started and prior to Level 4, so that could give you some idea on how I'd pick it.

Here's how I view seeding (not re-seeding, but region seeding): seeding is indicative of what you have done up to this point. When I'm doing my picks, I often picks lower-seeded teams to win obviously, but if I was doing seeding, I wouldn't necessarily seed that same way. For example, I picked Sparta to beat Ashland and New Richmond before the playoffs started. However, that doesn't mean I think they deserved the #2 seed. Picks are based on the future, seeding is based on the past. That's my take anyways.

IF seeding the top 2 were a thing (remember this is all for-fun forum speculation) going into the playoffs, I would have seeded it as follows: Fondy #1. Kimberly #2.
Kimberly's one loss 31-28 to #1 ranked and undefeated Fondy week #1.
No undefeated team in the state other than Fondy could have claimed superiority to Kimberly based on their 9-0 record vs. Kimberly's 8-1.
