G-E-T has claimed their fifth Coulee conference championship in a row and second outright in a row.
The final week before playoffs has arrived. A lot of last-second conference games are being played this week after being postponed due to weather. Unfortunately there is no more time to make up games, and it looks like there might be more snow coming Tuesday and Thursday....

Current Standings:
Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau: 18-1, 10-0
Arcadia: 15-4, 7-3
Westby: 12-7, 6-3
West Salem: 11-8, 6-4
Luther: 7-12, 4-6
Black River Falls: 2-16, 1-9
Viroqua: 1-17, 0-9

Monday, February 11:
G-E-T @ Onalaska - Onalaska was ranking highly in D2 for a while until their surprising loss to DeForest. Since then, they have gone 9-1 to bring their record to 14-4 including two relatively close-ish games with league-leading Aquinas. A win here should certainly boost their rankings and give them momentum for the post season.
Sparta @ BRF - Both of these teams have struggled in their respective conferences. Sparta is 5-14 right now and has earned an 8 seed for the playoffs. I think this could be a pretty close game, but BRF probably won't be able to take down the Spartans.
Westby @ Viroqua - In my opinion Westby got cheated out of the 3 seed, but that could be beneficial for them in travel time. Viroqua is, well, they're Viroqua. They can't compete against the Coulee teams, but later this week they could potentially get their first conference win. I don't see it happening in this match-up, though.

Tuesday, February 12:
BRF @ Arcadia - Arcadia has dropped a pair of conference games to Westby that they probably could have won, but they are still in second place in the conference.
Viroqua @ Luther - Luther has had its ups and downs, but they do seem much better than their record. Viroqua hasn't played well all season, and they will probably add another loss to their season total.
West Salem @ Westby - This is a game to look out for. West Salem beat them earlier this season, but Westby did manage to beat Arcadia twice while West Salem lost to the Raiders twice. Both teams have some momentum, and I expect this to be a slow and defensive game, which goes right with Westby's style of play.

Thursday, February 14:
West Salem @ G-E-T - This last meeting at West Salem brought a pretty close back-and-forth game, but G-E-T rallied late in the second half to a win. West Salem has had a lot of losses that they should have won easily, but I'm not sure they can keep up with G-E-T's quick offense and aggressive defense. I wouldn't be surprised to see this game get postponed to Saturday if the forecast for Galesville on Thursday holds up.

Friday, February 15, aka Coulee Classic v2:
Arcadia @ G-E-T - Arcadia and G-E-T have been the top two teams since the beginning of the season, but Westby could threaten that with a win over West Salem. Arcadia is a great team with inconsistencies. G-E-T has been hot all year, but if Arcadia is on, this game will be a nail-biter.
BRF @ Viroqua - BRF got their first conference win against this team at the Coulee Classic with a strong performance. If they play as well on defense as they did that night, they will get another easy win over Viroqua.
Luther @ Westby - Luther and Westby have had poor performances in non-conference showings. Westby has fixed this with a surprising third place in conference standings while Luther has just been ok. Luther has the potential to be a good team, but they seem to turn the ball over a lot. Westby plays great defense throughout the whole game and doesn't have a very capable offense. An upset is very possible here.

My Predictions:
G-E-T @ Onalaska
Sparta @ BRF
Westby @ Virqoua

BRF @ Arcadia
Viroqua @ Luther
West Salem @ Westby

West Salem @ G-E-T

Arcadia @ G-E-T
BRF @ Viroqua
Luther @ Westby

Games of the Week:

West Salem @ Westby, West Salem @ G-E-T, Arcadia @ G-E-T - These last minute conference games will give the winners of these games momentum into the playoffs. These are the top four teams in the Coulee by far, and they include the top six playoff seeds. These should all be pretty close games.

Monday Scores:
G-E-T 63, Onalaska 45 - G-E-T was down by 3 at the half, but they outscored the Hilltoppers 36-15 in the second half to get a massive win. G-E-T is ready for the playoffs after their last two games, but there are still two more games to play before then.
Sparta 48, BRF 46 - This was an even game from start to finish. The game was tied at 46 for the last couple of seconds until Sparta was able to lay it in off of a put back at the buzzer to win. BRF played well especially for a young team. Within a couple of years they can be a much better team in the Coulee rather than finishing towards the bottom.
Westby 81, Viroqua 26 - I’ve always seen Westby as a defense-first kind of team, and scoring 81 points is great; however, Westby only has about 4 players on the bench, which means they had no reserves to put in. Allowing 26 points by Viroqua with a defensive team like Westby isn’t the best, but they still had huge 55 point win.

Thursday and Friday Scores:
Viroqua 23, Luther 57
West Salem 48, G-E-T 55 - G-E-T came back from a ten point decifit at the half with an 11-0 run with 8 from Lexi Wagner. She passed her brother, Nick Wager, in career points during this contest and ended with 26 total.

Luther 52, Westby 61
BRF 49, Viroqua 40
Arcadia 48, G-E-T 45 - a BIG win for Arcadia right before the playoffs. Refs were very whistle-happy against both teams, but it happened to have a larger effect on G-E-T because three starters - Olivia Zielke, Molly Schmitz, and Cassy Schmitz - got into foul trouble and sat for most of the game. Arcadia played great defense against Lexi Wagner, and without those other three great offensive weapons in the game, G-E-T’s offense struggled.

Saturday Scores:
West Salem 49, Westby 41 - A very good win for West Salem, gives them a lot of momentum heading into Tuesday. They should easily win, so look if/when they travel to Arcadia. That should be a very exciting game.
