3 of 4 is almost a must for this series.  Hopefully the bats come to some like and the pitchers keep the ball in the park.  If we can get tonight and tomorrow night, Saturday and Sunday should see the intensity level amped up.  It is time to put up or shut up.

Braun will not have a good series. He will have a good game against Quintana because he has had great success in the past but the rest of the pitchers in this series have carved him up. He has hit Hendricks well this year however. I think this will be a 2-2 series split. I look for the Cubs to take Thursday and Sunday matchups with the Brewers grabbing the middle two. If Darvish's forearm issue is not a problem and he pitches the way he has since the all star break it wouldnt shock me to see the Cubs take 3 of 4. This is actually a must win for both teams.

Chase Anderson was yanked after four innings and 59 pitches and the bullpen proceeded to give up 10 runs on 11 hits over the last five innings as the Brewers fall, 10-5.

Just another MOY move.

I was wondering in the last 10 years how many guys who threw no-hitters would have never done so because CC would have pulled them in the 5th?

That is false. The bullpen gave up 8 runs not ten. Contreras tagged Anderson for two runs himself before getting yanked

Zach Davies (5 IP), Brent Suter (2 IP), Junior Guerra (1 IP) and Ray Black (1 IP) combined to shut the Cubs down to the tune of three hits and a solitary run, while Yelich and Grandal each homered for the Crew as they coasted to a 7-1 win.

Yelich walked it off, 3-2, with an RBI double after Grandal tied it with a solo shot in the eighth.

Brewers pitching again on the ball For the most part, holdig the Cubs to just four hits. Gonzalez threw five strong and Peralta dazzled in his two innings. Guerra and Pomerantz were meh, but Hader went the final two striking out four.

Kyle Schwerber is a terrible OF.  What he was thinking on that last play is beyond me.  Play the hop off the wall and runners are on 2nd and 3rd.  Gotta love seeing him in the field if you are a Brewer fan.  These are must win games and today is a must win also.  We need to get this to 2 games back and then head to Miami and get 3 of 4 there.  The bats have to come around here soon.  I am not sure the pitching staff can continue to do what it has.  It is good to see some life here and taking care of business today will be huge.

Counsell on the 9th inning:

Was Counsell surprised the Cubs pitched to Yelich in the 9th? “That’s why you don’t bunt [after the leadoff runner reached] -- so they do pitch to him.”

Same exact situation as Monday's game against Houston.  With an open base, yelich never gets to bat.

Has anyone heard from WIAC?
I miss him.

He knew baseball pretty good.

We should all be grateful Baez is out.
One of the most impactful players in the game.
I'd take him any day!

C'mon boys, bust those sticks out today!

After an inauspicious start to the series, the Brewers (naturally) took 3 of 4 from the Cubs as the bats got hot to the tune of eight runs off of Jon Lester, with the key hit being a three-run bomb from Tyler Austin. Brent Suter threw two important bridge innings in relief, and when the Cubs pulled within three in the ninth, Hader slammed the door with two Ks.

This was a must win today and they came through.  19-9 in the final 28 games will get the 2nd Wild Card spot I think.  A 4-2 start is good.  They are a game ahead of the pace I thought they needed to have.  3 of 4 in Miami is certainly doable and with the Cubs heading out to San Diego for 4, being a game back or even by the end of Thursday is possible.

Gotta like the contributions of the young guys.  Tyler Austin and Tyrone Taylor chipped in today.  And, Corey Spangenberg has represented himself well both at the plate and in the field.  Maybe he will get a look at SS in the spring to start a platoon there.
