I see Mark Miller wrote an article to keep track of some of the recent transfers in the FVA. I like how he states, "It's gotten to the point..."

https://www.wissports.net/news_article/show/947662

Not sure all of his info is completely accurate.  I thought the boy from AE has lived in the area for a long time before HS.

How does a kid OE last month when the deadline to OE is the end of April? Does the OE deadline extend if the school still has room? Maybe he did meet the OE deadline in April but not announce he was going to use it until last month?

Kid from Bay Port is going to OE to Kaukauna??  OE would mean he is not moving so he's going to commute 30-40 mins for HS.  Whatever floats your boat I guess.

AN is getting the younger brother of a kid who played for their coach at his last HS job.

I always find it interesting that in many of these cases a team has a need to fill a particular position and suddenly they get a transfer who just happens to play that position.  There is almost always a connection.

Got wind of an about-to-happen transfer also on the North Shore, and it's a bit of a big one...but don't worry PU and Nicolet are not involved.

However, another school (not on the North Shore) that has benefited from a coach's connections and received a plethora of transfers since he was hired is involved...and the player is leaving a highly successful private school.

Can you piece it together?

I have no idea but this will be even more common place in another 2-3 years if things aren't changed in some way.

If you want your HS team to do well and compete for conference championships and State you need to start adding talented players from somewhere because as you can see your competitors are doing it.

That's an interesting move. When is the last time Dominican lost a player to a transfer? Typically, they are on the receiving end.

Dominican is located in the "North Shore" area of SE WI.

Two years ago. Darryl Brooks to Menomonee Falls. Brooks has since moved on to a prep school.

I see the WIAA is kicking around a possible new transfer rule.

Having given a little thought to the new proposed transfer rule I think this is going to be trouble.

Played AAU with new schoolmate(s) - violation

Was coached in AAU by dad of new schoolmate - violation

Went to a camp and got split up in drills and teams with a player from the new school - fuzzy.  Might be OK because he didn't control what team he was placed on at the camp??

Played AAU with kids from all over the area. Dad takes new job as Police Chief in small town with only 1 HS. That HS has a kid on that same AAU team. What is a kid to do??

Kid transfers to school B. His GF is an athlete at school B. They have worked out together and hung out shooting hoops, playing tennis and throwing a frisbee at the local park together. Is that a pre-existing athletic relationship.

I guess there could always be a waiver process. I don't mind the existing rule if they could put some teeth into it. It's too bad so many kids and families are less than honest about the reasons for transfers.

I asked today about a couple of the examples here, because I agree that they could be troublesome. If a player competes at a camp or showcase with a randomly assigned group, that would not trigger the "Pre-existing Athletic Relationship" item if they were to transfer to a school of said camp teammate in the future.

Player and his girlfriend wouldn't apply because they aren't competing on the same team.

Waiver processes would still be in place for extenuating circumstances.

What if this was golf or soccer and boys and girls are mixed on those HS teams as they sometimes are in small schools for those sports. BF and GF go play golf together all summer at the local course. Then one transfers to the others school and they play on the same HS golf team. Or they go to kick a soccer ball around and workout and do footwork drills together all summer and then end up on the same HS team??

Seems like there could be as many grey areas as there are now and much to be worked out.

Or what if two HS basketball players from different schools pass each other at the mall, and at the instant they pass each other, they make eye contact while both are thinking about shooting hoops.  Is that a pre-existing athletic relationship if one were to transfer to the other's school?  I mean, they both were thinking about basketball when they made eye contact.  Wait--this situation is ludicrous...who goes to the mall anymore?

Your ability to try to make mountains out of molehills is unmatched here.  Go back and read, and then re-read, the WIAA's proposed changes that you posted.  What is the common theme in these "athletic relationships"?  That should help answer your questions.
