Ouch.  This is not a good matchup for the Badgers.  Oregon is as hot as anyone and will bring a lot of athleticism to the game. Plus, the committee didn't do the Badgers any favors by sending them out to San Jose.  I am not going to be shocked with a one and out here.  If they would get by though, I like the chances in a 2nd round game vs. Kansas St.  Somehow survive Friday.  Going to have to shoot it a heck of a lot better than yesterday.

With Dean Wade out, I'd argue K-State has every bit of a chance of being gone after the First Round as well.

The Badgers, based on their recent grinder-like performances (with the exception of the Iowa Game), certainly don't instill much confidence in their fan base.  They appear tired, weary & lethargic, at times bordering on apathetic & disinterested. On the other hand, perhaps those behavior traits are merely an illusion. With that said, I agree Coach, Oregon will be a handful.  The Badgers are definitely going to have to bring their A-game if they are to have any chance of staying with the Ducks.

As for a potential 2nd-round match-up vs K-State ...  the Wildcats may have difficulty getting by UC-Irvine ...

You are right with that DB.  Would not be a shocker to see a 12-13 matchup here with both Wisconsin and K State getting beat.   This is a really tough draw for the Badgers.  If they could get by, that will be as good a win as they have had all year.

And really, if you had to pick a #1 seed for the Badgers to play in a Sweet 16 game it would be Virginia.  I wouldn't want anything to do with Duke, NC, or Gonzaga.  You know it is going to be a lower scoring game and Virginia is going to run out and put a ton of points on the board.  It would be a grind it out, slug fest.  Maybe the first team to 50 wins.  The others, somehow the Badgers would have to get to 80 and that isn't happening.

Some of the teams basically staying home is a surprise.  Cincinnati playing in Columbus shouldn't happen.  At least it is against Iowa.

Agree again, Coach.  Bucky held his own pretty well when he played Virginia back in December in the Bahamas, a 53-46 Virginia win.

Oregon is hot, but they haven't beaten a team ranked in the top 50 based on metrics during that streak, and the pac 12 was awful this year. They are a 12 seed for a reason.

The points you make, Crackerjack are very valid !

Noteworthy:

1.  Since 1995, Wisconsin has appeared in more combined Football bowl games and  NCAA basketball tournaments than any other team in the country.  Bucky has participated in 43 combined bowls & hoops tourneys ... 22 football bowl games and 21 NCAA hoops tournaments.

Texas has appeared in 40 bowls & hoops tourneys (20 and 20).
Florida has 39 combined appearances (22 bowls, 17 Hoops)
Michigan St also has 39 combined appearances (17 bowls and 22 hoops)

2.  UW forward Ethan Happ has been named to the All-American 2nd team by 3 media entities so far:  Sports Illustrated, The Sporting News and The U.S. Basketball Writers of America.

From an advanced stats standpoint, UW will be the best team Oregon has faced all year.

With that said, UW is going to have to execute against a matchup 2-3 zone with a lot of length. The good thing is Oregon doesn’t score the ball like the Oregon teams UW has faced in years past.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde team, which team will show up? You would think after 2 years together, this team could figure out how to play together.

UW players & coaches comment on the unfamiliarity which NCAA tournament teams should hopefully have with the Badgers compared to the ultra-familiarity Big 10 teams have with Bucky's players, schemes & tendencies during the regular season, particularly the latter half of the season:

"The regular season was winding down a few weeks ago, and the senior center for the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team was counting down the days. It wasn’t that Happ was longing for his career to be over; he was just eager to get as far away from Big Ten Conference opponents as possible.

'It’ll be easier to get some of the little things that I do around the hoop,' Happ said at the time. 'But as a team (as well), definitely, because the Big Ten is so tough defensively and the coaching staffs are so good that by this time of year it’s so hard to score in the half court.'

'Everyone knows everyone’s tendencies, our offenses, our defenses and all that stuff,' UW assistant coach Howard Moore said. 'There’s a lot of truth to that, where just the familiarity of what people bring to the table is gone now. The biggest thing is you’ve still got to execute. You’ve got to be sharper and you’ve got to understand everyone’s good at this stage. But I’ll take that without the familiarity.'

The good news for the Badgers is the only other Big Ten teams in the South region are Purdue and Iowa. UW wouldn't see either of them until the Elite Eight."

Too bad his game didn't expand to counter those defenses like an outside shot.

With Nate Reuvers moving down to the low post next season combined with his ability to step outside the arc to nail the trey, ala Frank Kaminsky, I believe will open up the UW offense some and make them a tad more explosive.

Happ must've outgrown his ability to shoot from the outside.  Announcers often reference his ability to handle the ball, sometimes bringing the ball upcourt following a rebound.  He possesses this ability because he was a guard until he hit a growth spurt around the 9th grade.  If he was a guard, one would think he had some type of outside shot ... which is why I suspect he out-grew his outside shot when he hit his growth spurt at age 14 or so, and never re-discovered it.

UC-Irvine takes out K-State, 70-64. Is Wisconsin the next to fall to a double-digit seed, or will Big 10 superiority (thus far) in the Tourney pull them through?

Well, not surprised by the loss. Am surprised by the second half capitulation.

That may have been a death knell for the program...looks kind of bare...eek.

That was brutal and I'm not shocked at all.  I think it's time to start getting concerned where this program is going.  I said earlier in the year that Gard might be steering this program the same direction Mike Eaves took the hockey program, that's a problem.
