As we gaze into the crystal ball, what do we see for the future of the Six-Rivers Conference?
Will there be school district consolidation? More co-op programs? 8 or 9 man football ?
Conference realignment is a constant topic with the larger schools in southwest Wisconsin and it looks like something is on the way. Will the Six-Rivers get caught up in it?

I could see Argyle, Blanchardville, and Hollandale forming one school at some point.

Barneveld could probably be absorbed into Mt. Horeb, but I don't see that needing to happen.

Monticello could join with New Glarus, they already co-op for a few sports.

Juda could go with Brodhead and/or Monroe.

The Gratiot park of Black Hawk could go to Darlington or Warren (Ill.).

Albany would probably go with Brodhead or Evansville.

Belmont could go to Platteville.

Potosi might have to go to Lancaster (that'd be an interesting football team). They could also combine with Cassville.

Highland's enrollment continues to decline. They'd have to go to Iowa-Grant or Muscoda I believe.

Cassville has lost almost half their enrollment in 10 years. I can see them collapsing soon if they don't do something. I think their only option might be Potosi. Maybe across the border into Guttenberg.

Benton would probably go to Cuba City.

Shullsburg looks like their enrollment is steadily starting to decline as well. They have a few options though. They could a) travel to Darlington b) meet in the middle with Benton c) meet in the middle with Gratiot

River Ridge's enrollment has been dropping almost every year for atleast a decade now, but I think they still are safe. I'm not sure I can say the same in 5-10 years though.

I think that the Six Rivers won't be affected that much if there was some realignment happening in the near future. Maybe some teams will come in or go to the Ridge and Valley but I think the major realignment will happen between the Coulee, Mississippi Valley, Southwest and possibly the South Central.

The bigger question here is will teams with enrollments like Belmont, Highland, Cassville among others jump to 8-man? I think that there is the potential that teams could go 8-man in the not so distant future.

The only realignment I see from the Six Rivers is the consolidation into one conference in other sports outside of football (football is already at only one conference). With that said, I do think there will be consolidation in the next 10 years. If I had to guess, my top choices for schools that may not exist in 10 years are Albany, Black Hawk, Cassville, Highland, and possibly Benton (even though they did just pass a referendum in the past few years to keep the school open). A lot of the other schools could be consolidation candidates; however, some of them have fairly new schools and I think that keeps them around for a little while longer.

Regarding football, I think we will see more potential co-ops, much like is happening in baseball, rather than a jump to 8 man at this point. I could be completely wrong about that though. It should be interesting in the next 5 to 10 years and I am anticipating a lot of change. Stay tuned everyone!
