Regionals----->Sectionals------>State

Would be curious about Sectional breakdowns in this set-up.

People would be up in arms about having to choose between what division to watch.

Harbaugh will have Urban Meyer retired from OSU by 2020.

Or why some divisions don't get to play in the KC.

Coverage would be impacted too with simultaneous games.

I think this would be the chief complaint – splitting up the haves and have-nots. No one really grows up in Wisconsin and dreams of playing in the Fieldhouse.

Also re: the Fieldhouse...I'd be surprised if state basketball ever returned there. Wikipedia says it hasn't been used for that since 1997. Although apparently they're working on some renovations there, so who knows.

The chief complaint would be the top two seeds getting a pass into the semi-finals. That process would get extremely ugly, and the advantage for those top two seeds is extreme. Being seeded 3-6 would be very punitive compared to getting a 1 or 2 seed.

In terms of the Fieldhouse, I'd love to see it utilized for hoops again in some fashion (sectionals, maybe girls state some day), but I don't know if they have a basketball court or basketball hoops anymore.

I'd say have the "open" tourney in the Kohl Center and the "closed" tourney in the Fieldhouse? So all the schools that allow tranfers play in the big gym and the rest in the old place?

Might as well suggest the unicorns play in the Kohl Center and the leprechauns play in the Fieldhouse. Your "open/closed" divisions aren't going to happen.

I would like to see division 1 expanded to 8 teams. They could add extra sessions on Wed. Two game in the afternoon and two in an evening session. Keep the rest the tourney the same. Thoughts?

They'd be better off re-consolidating most of current D2 back into D1, and go back to four divisions, if we're being smart about this whole thing...😎

I don't foresee the girls hoops tournament returning to Madison any time soon.  The girls state tournament has been embraced by Green Bay, Ashwaubenon & the surrounding area.  The Resch Center's management co., PMI Entertainment,  does a fabulous job of staging the tourney and by all indications, the WIAA is extremely happy with the Resch Center's performance hosting both the girl's state volleyball & basketball tournaments.

Or, stay with the current 5 divisions, keeping D-2 thru D-5 at 4 teams each, bumping up the # of D-1 teams to 8, and scheduling 2 lower division games for Thursday morning.

So many coaches in the other divisions will be against that. It's not happening, as much as many casual fans may want it back.

4 divisions. 8 teams each. Figure out the deets later. That's where I think the sweet spot would be.
