Well, like it or not, it's that time of year again. Players are reporting and another sure-to-be-underwhelming season is afoot.

One player who won't be reporting is veteran D-Lineman Mike Daniels who will be released. Daniels, in the final year of his extension, has battled injuries and was seen as ill-fitting in DC Mike Pettine' scheme.

Daniels, as most recently-released Packers seem to end up doing, will sign with an NFC North rival, in this case, the Lions.

Winning ugly has somehow gotten this team all the way to the NFC Title game. 😏

I guess parting ways with McCarthy was the right call.

I'm as fatigued with NFL opinion as anybody, but for this to have less than five replies all year is something...😒

We just like seeing you talk to yourself 🙂
The Packers/Badgers/Brewers are like your children; you don't love them because they're good, you love them because they're yours.

Nice to see the Packers once again show up for a big game... their propensity to get blown off the field in meaningful games is really starting to get old. No toughness on this team, and it’s been that way for years.

At least when the badgers blow their big games it’s usually a game going into the 4th quarter...

This season was a massive surpirse, I was thinking 7-9 before the year...  Things i want to see changed going foward below.....

1) Draft a wideout high in the draft.  They need another explosive piece to pair with Adams.
2) I'm sick of this gimmick crap on defense. 3 down and 1 linebacker garbage is disgusting.   Actually commit to playing an actual D, right now it's predicated on being ahead and getting sacks.  We can't stop the run worth a lick.
3) Lowry, Lancaster, and Martinez can't be starters on this team.  All three aren't athletic enough to be starters in this league.  Gutekunst has done a nice job trying to fix the stench Ted made, lots of work left to improve the personnel on D.
4) Take a long hard look at the DC position.   Tonight was an embarrasment, no adjustments, can't stop the run.  Based of Pettine's career rush defensive numbers it won't get any better.   https://twitter.com/SalSports/status/1219073625216684032

Well, when you're in a spot nobody expected, it's hard to get too mad.

Unfortunately, they just weren't ready for primetime. This wasn't a surprise though.

The harsh reality is, as nyybball points out, there's still a ton of roster work to be done. A regression to the mean seems likely for next year...but what's the mean?

I like the quick-hitters offensively, even though the Niners swarmed well defensively, those type of throws need to be a staple of any Rodgers-led offense going forward. Use Jones in the passing game, and hopefully a much-better in-space TE.

Defensively, the philosophy and scheme has to change. As they are currently set-up you need above-average guys at nearly every position and quality depth. It just doesn't seem realistic. As it currently is, they need a Ray Lewis at MLB. They have Blake Martinez. Sure the Smiths are great on the edge, but what are you really hoping to accomplish with this 3-4/nickel hybrid base scheme?

Aaron Rodgers has now lost 8 times in his postseason career.  In those loses the offense averaged 24.8 points per game, the defense allowed an average of 36.37 points per game.  That is unbelieveable...Thanks Ted.

The Capers-esque 3-4/nickel hybrid worked great for two seasons and then eroded rapidly. That was nearly a decade ago. Why has this not been moved away from?

Unlike places like Pittsburgh, the Packers have not been able to maintain that level in this system due to injury, erosion of what talent has been there, and lousy development and drafting guys who don't fit the scheme (Nick Perry...anyone? It was a miracle he made anything out of his career).

The defense right now probably has more quality players than it has in recent years. It is now time to give them something that puts them in a better situation for consistency. Do they let LaFleur bring in his own DC?

I can easily see them being better next year, but having a worse record.

For one they will play a 1st place schedule not 3rd like this year.

Rodgers has to be better with his accuracy. Every week he makes some poorly placed throws. The 2pt conv to Adams last night was a terrible throw.

Rodgers has to be better with his decision making. Seems like he has it in his head where he is going to throw the ball before the play develops. Is that a trust issue with receivers? Halfway through the season that stuff should have been worked out or they should have addressed it. Sort of has a Brewers feel to it, we are better than we thought but we are sticking to our rebuilding plan no matter what.

They need to find at least 3 starters on D for next year; DE, DT and ILB.

They also need to find at least 1 WR or do whatever they have to do to get Rodgers to trust the others.

Maybe Sternberger is going to be a good TE but still need another pass catching TE.

Lots of holes to fill for a team with the #30 pick.
