Brookfield East at Arrowhead - Awfully impressive win from the Spartans last week, controlling Marquette from start to finish. Arrowhead's game went about as expected, and I'm still not completely buying the notion that they're "back."

Wauwatosa East at Germantown - I'm guessing this won't be 3-0, but at this point there have to be some worries about the health of the Germantown program.

Menomonee Falls at Marquette - Marquette probably didn't expect to be 0-2 at this juncture but now they're here. While Falls isn't necessarily a world-beater, a poor showing could see the Hilltoppers at 0-3.

Brookfield Central at Sussex Hamilton - As far as GMC matchups go, this one should have the most eyes on it. I think BC is still more than quality enough to expect a win here, but something about them pretty much never being in it against CMH has me wondering...For Sussex, well, it's hard to have a read on them as of yet.

Wauwatosa West at West Allis Hale - Two odd games for West to start the year...it appears they will be relatively competitive in the league. For Hale, a decent showing here would be a morale booster, and could lead to growth and better showings the rest of the season. Another lopsided score and the trudging towards the renewed rivalry next season will only start to feel interminable.

Week Three Matchups

Friday, 9/6

Brookfield East at
Arrowhead - East played hard and played well on Friday, but they were lucky to draw Marquette early.  Aside from a pretty good nose, they look small to me, rely a lot on a couple two-way guys, and have one gamebreaker (Hunt) who between a kick return TD and a garbage-time breakaway was basically the difference for them. With that kind of film, Arrowhead's players should listen when their coaches preach containing Hunt. If they can do that, they should win this Braveland Conference tilt.

Wauwatosa East at Germantown - You have to wonder how Germantown would be doing if they went back to Datka ball, or even stayed dedicated to the running game the way old rivals Homestead have. It doesn't feel like they brought that old smashmouth identity with them when they joined the GMC.

Menomonee Falls at Marquette - Falls appears to be on a roll whereas Marquette is clearly disjointed on offense. The Hilltoppers need the consistency of a regular running game and the push up front that makes that happen. Interestingly, that's exactly what's led Falls to 2-0 at this point-- but it will be a lot harder to do at Hart Park. This has the makings of a pretty good game. I'll take Marquette to start working out their issues, but this could realistically go either way.

Brookfield Central at Sussex Hamilton - This is going to look like an upset special pick to a lot of people, but I'm already on record with my belief that the post-Jed Lancers are due for a dropoff from the previous few years... and also that Hamilton is on the ascent. I was not surprised by the CMH result over BC. I think Hamilton catches them at a great time.

Wauwatosa West at West Allis Hale - This is a must-win for West but based on early results, it's hard to see the Trojans not handling the Huskies here.  Unless Jason Morgan walks onto the field and intercepts five passes to tie his school record set against Cudahy in 1991. That would be something.

Games of Note

Lake Geneva Badger at Wilmot - Lake Geneva Gygax looks to have bounced back from a down year.

Muskego at Waukesha West - Every week is Game Of The Week material for the Warriors and their opponents. The Wing-T finally started to get untracked in the second half against Arrowhead which doesn't bode well for West. That said, West has the QB (and with their braintrust, I suspect they have the game plan) to dissect Muskego's D. The only question is whether they can execute. That'll be the difference between a potential classic or another Classic 8 romp for Muskego.

Fond Du Lac at Kimberly - FDL impressed against Franklin early but now they have a Papermakers team keen to avenge last year's loss.

Brookfield East at Arrowhead: Nice win by B'East. With that W, the top of the GMC just got quite a bit interesting. Arrowhead just fell short against Muskego. They are interesting piece in the Classic Eight.

Wauwatosa East at Germantown: This is an interesting matchup. It's clearly obvious that this G-Town team is a shell of their NSC days and could only score three points. However East despite some signs competitiveness probably won't hold the Warhawks to three points again.

Menomonee Falls at Marquette: MUHS at 0-2.....It appears that they will need some help if they want to defend their conference crown. Falls had some issues against Hale but put it away in the second half.

Brookfield Central at Sussex Hamilton: Probably the GOTW. BC couldn't stop the pass against CMH. SH despite a 2-0 start, still have many questions surrounding them. I think BC bounces back.

Wauwatosa West at West Allis Hale: Now this is an interesting matchup. TW could not get anything going against GT despite holding the Warhawks to a Field Goal. Hale avoided the running clock against Falls but still have some issues moving the ball. I want to see Hale make this competitive for the majority of the contest.

Brookfield East at Arrowhead
Give B’East their credit.

Wauwatosa East at Germantown
Kudos to Gtown for earning a well fought win.

Menomonee Falls at
Marquette
This is a bar game for both teams. We’ll see where they stand.

Brookfield Central at Sussex Hamilton
I’m taking Lampkin and company.

Wauwatosa West at West Allis Hale
Two tough games that West was in position to win. Wonder when is the last time a “ Swittel Offense” was held scoreless.
