Manitowoc Lincoln at Marquette - Pretty impressive for Marquette to snag a 2-seed with three losses, but victories over playoff teams BC and G-Town late in the year do stand up better than King's early-season wins right now.  It will be interesting to see how far they can get in this bracket.  More interesting would be to see how Don Davey's mid-80s Ships would have fared against the MUHS WISAA juggernauts of the era.

West Bend East at Brookfield Central - GMC vs North Shore, Part I. I've said all along that BC is not the complete team they had in past years, but you need to be able to shut down what's still a very good running game to have a chance with them. That's easier said than done and I'm not convinced a West Bend team is ready to make that happen.

Slinger at Brookfield East - GMC vs North Shore, Part II. They run different systems but philosophically East is a lot like Central. They won't hurt you throwing the ball, but man can they ever run. I give Slinger a better chance here than West Bend might have had, but I've seen Hunt and Co. play and I think they will be hard to stop in Round 1.

Germantown at HomesteadGMC vs North Shore, Part III. A renewal of this old rivalry makes for one of the best Level 1 matchups of the fall. G-Town's defense is the real deal but Homestead knows exactly what they're in for. It may have been a down year in Mequon but their familiarity with this particular foe should get them to Level 2.

Cedarburg at Menomonee Falls - GMC vs North Shore, Part IV.  It's impossible to look at this game and not think it could well go either way. Falls has the more meaningful wins but they've also had some troubling performances of late. Cedarburg isn't consistent the way their best squads have been, but this year they've been able to hang with anyone. I'll take Falls for now but an upset's not out of the question.

Manitowoc Lincoln at Marquette - A lot of people are pretty high on them at the moment, but Manic Marquette could get themselves into trouble with a shaky performance. Any team they are likely to face has a shot if they don't show up offensively. The FRCC was very top-heavy this year, and Manty was not one of those teams. I think the Hilltoppers win, but only convincingly if there are defensive scores.

West Bend East at Brookfield Central - The D2 field is as wide-open as I've ever seen it. All the big names are there, but none of them are throwing off "overwhelming favorite" vibes. Whoever establishes themselves as a threat early may be able to ride that out. BC has one of the more favorable Level 1 matchups. Can they use that to springboard a run?

Slinger at Brookfield East - There is a huge part of me that wants to pick Slinger here. I watched them handle a wounded Homestead team. They are big and physical...however they lack much in the way of big-play threats and in a game of two big and physical defenses, the team with those capabilities has the upper hand.

Germantown at Homestead - The old rivalry is back for one night only. Homestead is struggling at the minute, injuries have hurt a team that never quite had the shine of some of their previous iterations. That said, it's the playoffs and it's Dave Keel. I have been burned betting against them one too many times.

Cedarburg at Menomonee Falls - Falls put Hamilton out of their misery last week (The Chargers threw a wrench in their gameplan and threw it over 40 times...a true sign that Sussex has lost their football identity), and grabbed a share of the title, at least in part validating The Decision. I don't think Cedarburg presents a big threat to them, and certainly isn't a defensive juggernaut, so Falls should hit on big plays. That said, Cedarburg has big play capability and should this turn into a shootout...

Manitowoc Lincoln at Marquette: You would think that MUHS got the 2 seed over King by a slight edge despite the abundance of MPS schools in the region. The region is set up for a nice run for the Hilltoppers but the way Marquette has played this season screams a shocking early exit here. Manitowoc despite bouncing back into the postseason after a brief drought, isn't that team to do it.

West Bend East at Brookfield Central: Group B was a monster to deal with and BC somehow came away with the top seed. Can they get through it? Possibly but I can't rule out Homestead at this point.

Slinger at Brookfield East: This screams upset here. B'East let G-Town hang around for the entire game last week letting the Warhawks make it a one score game late. Slinger has that Homestead win going for them here but who knows at this point.

Germantown at Homestead: Germantown is a solid team that could've finished top 3 in the North Shore. However this is the postseason and Dave Keel still coaches at Homestead.

Cedarburg at Menomonee Falls: Could this be the start of a nice run for Falls? Who knows.
