Sussex Hamilton at Wauwatosa East - This is one of those have vs. have-not games that the GMC is (in my mind anyway) notorious for. You have to believe it would be best for everyone if the Tosa and West Allis schools moved wholesale to the Woodland instead of week-in, week-out results like the one we'll see here.

Germantown at Wauwatosa West - Tosa West has a chance to buck the trend above by beating Germantown and moving up into the middle tier of this conference, which they've worked hard to do (but with little to show for it) since coming over from the Woodland. And me, I'm a sucker for an underdog story...

Friday, 8/30

West Allis Hale at Menomonee Falls - ...but not enough to pick the Huskies here.  Falls goes 2-0 to start the season, prompting early and perhaps premature talk of Julius Davis and the Ewing Theory around the bar at the Trysting Place.

Marquette at Brookfield East - Marquette is coming off an extremely physical loss to Muskego, and what's more, it's a loss that could have gone their way. It's definitely possible a talented East could take advantage, but it's hard to believe a squad as disciplined as the Hilltoppers will repeat the miscues that cost them last week.

Brookfield Central at Catholic Memorial - If Kennedy were still roaming the sidelines spitting fire and brimstone in cobalt blue, this would be a classic just like last week's crossover... but I have a feeling that the PJ (Post Jed) Lancers will get exposed here for the first time. It may not even be close.

Games of Note

Appleton North at Franklin - Franklin has too much going for them not to iron out the wrinkles of last week and win this game by a couple scores.

Arrowhead at Muskego - Not sure quite what Arrowhead has yet, but I don't think it's likely their defense is at the level of the crew that held the Warriors mostly in check last week. Muskego remains very good. They have some vulnerabilities, but the onus is firmly on Arrowhead to see if they have what it takes to exploit them.

Sussex Hamilton at Wauwatosa East - Sussex was mighty underwhelming last week and looks headed for another year similar to last, where their defense is quite good, but the offense sputters most nights. Have they given any thought to putting Finnessy in the backfield? Kollath was the difference coming out of there last year and was the only thing that kept them viable. Weird for Sussex not to have a stud RB in the stable.

Germantown at Wauwatosa West - Germantown was mighty underwhelming last week, while TW had Sussex on the ropes 'til the final minutes. I heard Swittel's on staff now at TW and I don't think it's a coincidence that suddenly TW's QB is racking up yardage on the ground. I like that change.

Friday, 8/30

West Allis Hale at Menomonee Falls - I tend to agree with the Ewing Theory although in fairness Falls was geared last year towards letting their All-State RB carry a young group of players and when he went down, much like the Brewers of 2019, they had no Plan B. Now it's a veteran group of players with another high-level RB. Hale may not be very good, but at least they look like a competent football team.

Marquette at Brookfield East - If Marquette's offense continues to make progress they should take this one, their D is that good (does anyone know O'Brien's status?). B'East is no doubt a contender, but they don't quite have that edge they had a few seasons back, IMHO.

Brookfield Central at Catholic Memorial - I somehow forgot that this was on the schedule for this year, what a barometer matchup for each team. I'm inclined to take CMH here as Fox is that rare Wisconsin HS QB difference-maker mostly based on his arm. BC might be a little too Lampkin-heavy at the minute and CMH's LBs should have a good day tracking him.

Games of Note

Appleton North at Franklin - I still contend Franklin is better than Fondy but you cannot hand out touchdowns like they are candy against an opponent of that caliber. A "Welcome To Varsity Football" moment for the young Saber signal-caller. Appleton North is not on Fondy's level, and weren't terribly overwhelming in their Week 1 affair. Franklin plays a Franklin game and they win handily.

Reedsburg at Monona Grove - A rare shellacking in Week 1 for Monona Grove...but it was Waunakee after all. Reedsburg not quite the Flexbone force they used to be.

Arrowhead at Muskego - If Arrowhead is really 'back' (I still have my doubts), then they should be able to slow down Muskego's Wing-T...something they have struggled with lately. Muskego didn't need any production out of their homerun hitter and still found a way to beat a staunch Marquette D. It might be closer at Arrowhead, but I think Muskego wins in relatively comfortable fashion.

Week Two Matchups

Thursday, 8/29

Sussex Hamilton at Wauwatosa East
East will get better it won’t show for awhile. Sussex a good GM team but not a state contender.

Germantown at Wauwatosa West
Tosa West looks good and I truly believe had their week 1 matchup been later in the season they win that game. Germantown is a shell of themselves.

Friday, 8/30

West Allis Hale at Menomonee Falls
Falls has a lot of athletes and will be able to compete week in and week out in this conference. A middle tier GMC team that could make some noise in their conference this year.

Marquette at Brookfield East
Marquette has a stout defense but was wore down by the tough rushing attack of Muskego. B’East has a chance here if they can emulate that game plan with their B’EAST of an RB Donovan Hunt.

Brookfield Central at Catholic Memorial
CMH isn’t as great as many think I believe. I’ll take CMH here but I’m not sure their season ends the way it did last season.

Games of Note

Appleton North at Franklin
Reedsburg at Monona Grove
Arrowhead at Muskego
If anyone has the horses to knock Muskego it’s the Warhawks. Definitely a team to watch in the state.

Sussex Hamilton at Wauwatosa East: Man East, you tend to get some big plays on BC...
Germantown at Wauwatosa West: Probably the best shot for TW to get any wins against the middle tier.

Friday, 8/30

West Allis Hale at Menomonee Falls: Perhaps not a running clock before halftime?
Marquette at Brookfield East: East needs to show a bit more if they fancy themselves contenders in the league this season.

Brookfield Central at Catholic Memorial: Another GOTW crossover....
