Vicious rumors are being spread about me. I don't like it.

Thursday 8/30

Germantown at Brookfield Central - The Warhawks are not looking like a playoff team this year. The Lancers are looking like a state contender...again.

Friday, 8/31

Wauwatosa West at Menomonee Falls - Davis is hard to pick against, but Tosa West really shut down Hamilton on the ground and perhaps deserved a better fate in that game last week. Not that I'm seeing that here, but the Ertl kid could cause problems for them. Still, Hale sold out to stop Davis and that only worked for so long.

Muskego at Brookfield East - B'East really had trouble generating much offense against Marquette outside of two big pass plays. They're still alright defensively, but Marquette's back got his and more. Bosshart may be out for the foreseeable future, but surprise, surprise, Muskego slotted in a sophomore and hasn't missed a beat.

Marquette at Sussex Hamilton - Defensively, Marquette looks a lot more comfortable this year, and the results to date prove it. Sussex struggled to generate much versus Tosa West last week and I sense that will continue here. Marquette has re-committed to the run and it has made them more dynamic because of it.

West Allis Hale at Wauwatosa East - Honestly not a clue what either team is this year. A bit of a youth movement for Hale? Tosa East has a lot of kids back and I think that pushes them over the top here.

Germantown at Brookfield Central - BC's second unit is building up some great experience already this year. Playing the juniors in blowouts and getting all those extra weeks of practice is an underrated aspect of how these high-level programs stay on top and reload year after year. More of the same for the Lancers this week.

Friday, 8/31

Wauwatosa West at Menomonee FallsAny other year, I'd say West is poised for a breakout game but Falls is starting to look more and more like a beneficiary of the John Clay Rule. (For the uninitiated: Never pick against a man-sized D-1 running back.)

Muskego at Brookfield East - Feel really bad for Bosshart, but at the same time his injury looks like a great Ewing Theory candidate.  The Wing-T is so much easier to defend when you know one guy's going to get it 20 times a game. Now that Muskego has proven they have multiple options, they might actually be scarier than they seemed before. That said... the Spartans' defense was really stout vs. MUHS. If that Pagel kid keeps it up he should get all-state consideration at LB. They stay stout and gap-sound. This is a legit GOTW candidate.

Marquette at Sussex Hamilton - This MUHS team really doesn't have any stars. They have a whole host of talented kids contributing up and down the roster, though, and a ton of strength up front on both sides of the ball. Hamilton took advantage last year when the Hilltoppers were down to their third-string QB in the second half and squeaked past Marquette. This year Brown-Williams and friends turn the tables back to normal.

West Allis Hale at Wauwatosa East - In the fall of 1991, a South Milwaukee running back named Chuck Choate ran for a school-record 1,146 yards-- which may not seem like much in some places, but in SM it stood for over twenty years and was only broken by leaving some kid in during a season-ending blowout of a Metro Classic-bound Thomas More squad. Why does this matter? Because Choate's son is now starting at RB for the Huskies, and on film he looks a lot like his dad.

Games of Note

Xavier at Menasha - There is no better story of a WISAA school finding success in the WIAA era than Xavier. Apologies to Marquette, Memorial, GB Notre Dame and Wisco but all four were perennial winners in the last days of WISAA. Xavier was an also-ran. Now they're a consistent winner. Pius XI, St. Thomas More and Kenosha St. Joe's, take heed.

Mount Horeb/Barneveld at Waunakee - Waunakee seems to be back at it.

Wisconsin Lutheran at New Berlin EisenhowerI really hate picking Ike, but every year Wisco is removed from Denoyer is another reminder of what a good coach the guy was.

Germantown at Brookfield Central: Looks like G-Town is shaping up to be on the outside looking in come playoff time. BC already in midseason form it appears. Done by halftime.

Friday, 8/31

Wauwatosa West at Menomonee Falls: Falls had to grind itself to a big win against Hale last week. West nearly stole one against Sussex. However Davis finds it a little more easier sledding here.

Muskego at Brookfield East: East was for the most part shut down on offense by Marquette's D last week. Now here comes Muskego and their physical attack.

Marquette at Sussex Hamilton: MUHS is really shaping up to be a challenger to BC at this point, SH had their hands full with a fired up Tosa West squad. Hilltoppers get a nice road win.

West Allis Hale at Wauwatosa East: Because I want Hale to be off the losing streak list at this point. Don't let me down Hale.
