Kaukauna at Wisconsin Rapids

Doing something different this year. No more confidence points, instead every conference game picked right will be 5 points. Non-Conference games will be four points. Way too much of a hassle adding up points.

Y'all have one week to get your picks in.

Also bear with me on the conference game situation for this league. Very vague on what is and isn't a conference game.

The Kaukauna Rapids game has been moved to Saturday for those who haven't heard yet.

Friday, 8/18

Hortonville at Appleton West ( The Terrors will be a team to watch this season. Not only are they coming off a second place finish last season, they won their first playoff game in a long time. They also return most of their offensive weapons including Alec GOffard and Patrick Ourada. Their offense will be able to score, but will the defense match them.

Appleton North
at D.C. Everest (The Lightning were a dissappintment last season in terms of what they expect from their program. The Evergreens made the playoffs yet again. North will be a much better team this season and I expect them to bounce back in a big way this season.

Kimberly at Fond Du Lac (All streaks need to come to an end sometime, and that time is now for Kimberly. The Papermakers lost a ton from last season on both sides of the ball. Mix that with a Fondy team that had them beat in level 3 a year ago, the Cardinals appear to have their number. I think the Cardinals will use last seasons loss for motivation in their home opener and put the winning streak to rest.

Appleton East at Wausau West (The Warriors continue to be a program that flys under the radar, but finds ways to make playoffs. The Patriots have not been good since 2012. They will however be better this season, but it still wont be enough.

Neenah at Stevens Point (Both of these teams qualified for playoffs last season with SPASH advancing to state semi-before losing to Kimberly. Despite losing Turner-Zick and Rosenthal, the Panthers will still be solid on offense and will be tough to beat.

Marshfield at Oshkosh West (Someone has to win this game. Wildcats have more offense.

Menomonie at Oshkosh North (North has been a consistent program over the past decade, but have taken steps back in recent years since their state final berth. Menominee continues to put together great seasons out west and consisitently challenges to make deep playoff runs. I expect a good game, but the Mustangs hold them off.

Saturday, 8/19

Kaukauna at Wisconsin Rapids (Much like the Terrors, this will be a team to watch this season. After making their first playoff appearance since 2011, the Raiders return plenty of weapons on the offensive side of the ball especially at WR. Kaukauna is still trying rebuild their program into what they once were. With a rather easy schedule, the GHosts may surprise and sneak into the playoffs this season.

* A Kimberly win at Fond du Lac is not a lock

I was at the Kimberly scrimmage against West De Pere and they looked awful. At one point they were own 35-7. I know it was only a scrimmage so I am not taking it that serious, but they will struggle this season. Wouldn't surprise me if they lost two or three games, but also wouldn't surprise me if they go unbeaten again

There is a rumor around the Kimberly program, where if it is true could change their season. DJ Stewart has not been playing rb at practice in about 10 days. With lack of receiver depth, it looks as if he may be a WR or wing back this season to help the passing game get going. If that is the case, expect Carter Eckes and John Nett to split carries.

I'd still imagine they'd be getting the ball into his hands a lot regardless of where he lines up.

That may be the case but when Stewart was there leading rusher from a season ago why take him out of the backfield? They have a new quarterback that threw a total of 6 passes last season being the signal-caller this year. If I was the coach I would want Stewart in the backfield to take some of the load off of Rosner. Carter Eckes and John net have the potential to be good running backs but they're not break out players like Stewart. I understand why they want to get Stewart on the outside to get him out in space but you need him to kind of get the offense going.

The more I've researched, the more I agree.

I have changed my original pick and am going with Fondy for the win.
