Week One Matchups

Thursday, 8/17

Wauwatosa East at Brookfield Central

Friday, 8/18

Menomonee Falls at Germantown
Brookfield East at Wauwatosa West
Sussex Hamilton at West Allis Hale
Marquette at Arrowhead (NC)

Games of Note

Kenosha Tremper at West Allis Central
West Bend West at Grafton

Doing something different this year. No more confidence points, instead every conference game picked right will be 5 points. Non-Conference games will be four points. Way too much of a hassle adding up points.

Y'all have one week to get your picks in.

Wauwatosa East at Brookfield Central - Tosa East threw out an SOS. The WIAA sent them Tosa West.

Friday, 8/18

Menomonee Falls at Germantown - People forget but this was a pretty big Braveland rivalry. Germantown actually has quite a few historic rivals (though none are named Frenchburg).

Brookfield East at Wauwatosa West - The Bus is gone and so is Graf, but B'East has more than stabilized as a program and will no longer drop off the face of the earth when a talented class departs.

Sussex Hamilton at West Allis Hale - Ya gotta wonder where Hale's morale is at. The bright side is even though WAC is gone, Tosa West is a just as beatable replacement.

Marquette at Arrowhead - Arrowhead has some questions to answer after whatever last year was. I hear Holtz did come back for his senior year, so that should solve the troublesome QB conundrum.

Games of Note

Kenosha Tremper at West Allis Central - IIRC, the Trojans were junior-heavy a year ago? The Bulldogs...nicht so much.

West Bend West at Grafton - WBW struggled in the WLT last year and return very little. Grafton wasn't much better, but NSC > WLT.

Wisconsin Lutheran at Oak Creek - Both teams lost a bit, but I think OC is in much better shape to start the season at a level close to last year's.

I'm adding this conference to my regular list-- too much fun not to!

Thursday, 8/17

Wauwatosa East at Brookfield Central - If I'm Tosa, I'm filing the co-op paperwork for 2018 immediately after this game. Why not? They do it for wrestling already, and the WIAA clearly isn't going to help them out.

Friday, 8/18

Menomonee Falls at Germantown - I spent some time in the Falls fifteen years ago and I will tell you, as of then people there still thought of G'town as a border rival. Don't think that's died down.

Brookfield East at Wauwatosa West - Agree with DB on B'East stabilizing. Likely has to do with how I've heard Brookfield has some of the stronger youth programs in the AAYFL, which by the way is now broadcasting "games of the week" and doing all kinds of crazy social media stuff to promote middle school football. []

Sussex Hamilton at West Allis Hale - It won't be long before Damato and crew have taken full advantage of that awesome new training complex. Families will move to Sussex just so their boys can play prep football there.

Marquette at Arrowhead (NC) - More than any program I've seen, the Hilltoppers historically have used the non-cons as a chance to find out more about themselves. How will they respond now that Week 1 counts in the standings?

Games of Note

Kenosha Tremper at West Allis Central - This game would have been really interesting in the early 90s or even that year WAC nearly toppled Koch's Oak Creek team.

West Bend West at Grafton - I can't pick a West Bend school without making a joke about that ridiculous 'two schools in one building' arrangement, so... Grafton.

Wisconsin Lutheran at Oak Creek - Picking depth and size here, but if Wisco does win this one they will be all set for a smashing Woodland debut.

-I heard completely unsubstantiated rumors at the scrimmage I was at that Tosa East and Pius could be looking at a co-op. Numbers-wise (Pius had 28 at the scrimmage) it makes a ton of sense...

-Or the year after (2004) where WAC knocked off Tremper in L1, 38-23...[] ...WAC's current second-to-last playoff victory.

Also of note, looks like Holtz may play more WR for AHS...not sure if that helps a Marquette team needing to replace most of its starters.

Wauwatosa East at Brookfield Central: The question is how many blowouts will Tosa East endure until realignment happens again?

Friday, 8/18

Menomonee Falls at Germantown: Hardwood rivals face off on the gridiron. G-Town has a bit more at this point.

Brookfield East at Wauwatosa West: Welcome to the Greater Metro Tosa West. At least you don't have to deal with the B'East that was SS-L (Bad pun alert).

Sussex Hamilton at West Allis Hale: The regular standard of Hale getting at least two wins a year will be in effect for the time being.

Marquette at Arrowhead (NC): Not sure what MUHS is at this point. They'll find a way to be in the hunt for the conference crown.

I did like BC to win last night, I think the public will believe me. It was an easy game to forget about. BC has a well rounded team and I think they are hungry after a disappointing finish last year. I hope the kids at Tosa East play hard and stay out for the team.

Germantown edges Falls in a middle of the pack game.

I think Sussex runs wild on Hale. They have an underrated back.

MUHS doesn't have much talent returning at all. I don't think they have any great strengths at all. Arrowhead can match their depth and smarts while possessing more horses.

Tremper enjoys a win over WAC who emptied out.

I will take Grafton over WBW.

Oak Creek will show that they are legit in beating a team whose best days are behind them.
