His dad and two uncles went through UND. Brother Jordan went there ahead of him.

Ok I'm hoping there is someone out there with the inside scoop. How did the Badgers let Schmaltz get out of Wisconsin?

Thanks.

So with that I did see him and his brother Jordan were on North Dakota's all time players roster. With the Eaves/Granato talk at work it was brought up the players who grew up & played here but played college hockey elsewhere.

Eaves didn't do himself any favors with in-state recruiting. The damage was done circa 2007 when he was oversigning and basically telling the in-state kids, "sorry - you no longer have a scholarship" after most scholarships to desirable locations had been handed out. Kids resented it, coaches resented it, and thereafter he only was getting the kids who really wanted to go to U-W to begin with.

Probably also doesn't help that there hasn't been a lot of good talent in the WIHS system in recent years.

There was also the whole Skille/Kessel mess.

At least Skille was instrumental in winning a national title.
