How's the conference shaping up this year for boys? Barneveld take the conference by themselves this year with Monticello losing their best player?

IMO, yes Barneveld will take the conference championship by themselves. What do you think?

I think Barneveld will take the title this year with probably another sectionals run. Monticello has shown some signs of life this summer at points. Juda seemed about equal with the Ponies during the one game I watched between them over the summer. I don't know much about Black Hawk, Pec, or Argyle, so I can't really judge them. I can see Pec putting up a fight though.

If you noticed, I left Albany off the last post. That's because I wanted to wait till after their scrimmage with Belleville. Belleville "won" by 11, but it was a solid preseason game for both teams. Both teams were sloppy at times and have things to improve on, but both also showed some good signs. Albany should be able to score this year, but I see their downfall being their defense. Belleville was able to score at will almost at times. In their 2-3 zone, the backside was a very large weakness at times with Belleville getting multiple 3's and backdoor layups. A couple adjustments and this should be better though. On the offensive side, I liked Albanys ability to shoot off the dribble at mid range with multiple players. Shell has potential to be a 1st teamer if he can minimize mistakes. He has the quickness to get around his defender and to the hoop with a good shot.

Barneveld is still my favorite to win the conference though. I can see Monticello and Albany going 2 and 3 behind them.

You have certainly seen a lot of teams play before the season has even started. If I had to pick my top 3 finishers in order it would go like this:

1. Barneveld
2. Pec
3. Juda

The rest would go in order something like this - Black Hawk, Albany, Monticello, and Argyle. I agree with your analysis of Albany. I think there lack of ability to defend the hoop will stop them from finishing higher in the conference. They will be competitive with the teams at the top of the conference as always as always - Coach Doescher does a great job of preparing his team and getting the most out of his players.

I think most people can agree on Barneveld is the team to beat this year.

After seeing Barneveld play, I think they are for sure the team to beat. I do think Monticello will finish much higher than what I had originally thought. I think they finish in the top 3. It looks like they have a freshman up and contributing. I will be interested to see them play later this year.

Yeah, you're a joke CrackerJack. You don't know basketball and stuff...

1. Barneveld - The starting 5 is the best in the conference, hands down.
2. Juda - This senior class has been around for a long time, and will be he closest thing to a challenge Barneveld sees this year.
3. Monticello - Kolasch is Crackerhead's favorite for conference player of the year. We'll see...
4. Pec - Good program, and they always play conference games well; however, they don't have what it takes to contend this year.
5. Albany - Albany is one of those teams that everyone always overlooks, but they end up making a surprising run.
6. Black Hawk - They're young... in 2 years they might be decent.
7. Argyle - Too busy swagging to play defense. That placekicker/golfer is pretty legit though.

Barneveld takes the conference with relative ease.

Nice way to start...

Please show me where I said Kolasch was the favorite for player of the year? You won't find it because I didn't say it. I will say that I think he is one of the better players in the conference along with Feller, Shell, and two B-town seniors.

This should be an interesting week. It will go a long way in determining the conference champion. Albany plays Juda Tuesday and then they get Barneveld at home on Friday. We will find out if they are a real contender this week, and which team, Albany or Juda, will stay within striking distance of Barneveld.

Looks like Barneveld & Monticello are the clear 1/2 for this year with a 3-team race for 3rd, and Pecatonica & Argyle bringing up the rear. The only 'surprise' I see is Black Hawk, but that is only because I knew nothing about them. Other than that, predictions are pretty close. Not bad for a guy from outside the Six Rivers, eh?

Having seen both Juda and Monticello play, I think that Juda was teh more talented team. However, Coach Olson does a fantastic job of getting the most out of his players. Black Hawk was a surprise in my eyes as well. They have a new coach who has them playing very solid, fundamental ball and Rupnow has been a big surprise this year from a player standpoint.

You had it pegged pretty good. You should post on here more often. How many games have you seen this year from the conference?

The brackets should be out shortly. It will be interesting to see the matchups and what teams will get to matchup with Randolph.

I watched them play summer ball and last years games. Plus I have played most of these teams during youth.

Also, I feel sorry for Argyle for getting the 1/16 game against Randolph.
